Obituary of Judy Colon Hawkns

Please share a memory of Judy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
For celebration of life: Judy Colon Hawkins was born on April 17, 1961, in Camden, New Jersey, the sixth of seven children to the late Geraldine Moore and Raymond Cooper. She was raised in Camden and educated in the city’s public-school system. On July 11, 1989, Judy married the love of her life, Robert Hawkins. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with two daughters, Grace and Faith Hawkins. Judy was a loving mother who poured her all into her two girls. Judy also loved to decorate and created a very picturesque living space for her family that changed every season. Judy’s professional journey was marked by dedication and compassion. She worked as a phlebotomist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for over 20 years until her retirement, where her professionalism and kindness left a lasting impact. Additionally, she briefly contributed her care and support at Martin Luther Christian School, working in the after-school program, and at a local nursing home, offering comfort to the elderly. Judy’s heart for service extended beyond her career; she transformed her family home into a halfway house, providing individuals with a second chance and a fresh start in life. In her early years, Judy was a vibrant and sociable young woman who enjoyed spending time with friends. Judy is fondly remembered as friendly, laid-back, and soft-spoken, with an impeccable sense of style—even if she was known for being fashionably late. Weekends often found her walking the Audubon Mall with her girls, always balancing her role as a devoted mother and dedicated friend. Judy enjoyed dancing, skating, swimming, and creating cherished memories with loved ones. In her later years, Judy found immense joy as a grandmother, pouring her love and energy into her grandchildren. She also treasured local trips with her husband, family, and friends. As a woman of deep faith, Judy spent many years in the house of the Lord, finding strength and comfort in her beliefs. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine and Raymond Cooper; and her siblings, Carmella Colon, Carmen Colon, Hakeem Colon, Grace Cooper, and Geno Colon. She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by her devoted husband, Robert Hawkins; her daughters, Grace and Faith Hawkins; her stepchildren, Jamal Lindsey and Robert Phifer; her grandchildren, Sabastian, Noah, and Gabriella; Brother Joseph Cooper (Charie), Bertha Johnson, Rosa Davis (Roosevelt), and Brenda Hawkins; and a host of extended family and dear friends. Judy’s life was a testament to love, service, and faith. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
