Doris Monroe Obituary

Doris D Monroe was born on September 15, 1937 in Harlem,  NY  to Mabel

and Robert Burley.  Her childhood education began in the Elizabeth City, Camden  school system.  Upon moving to New Jersey, she attended school in

Palmyra and Camden City.  She graduated from Rowan University with a

  Business Administration Degree.

Doris was married to the late Franklin Williams and from this union, their

daughter, Veronica was born.  In later years, Doris married the late Amos

                      Monroe.

Doris’ work history included being a Central Supply technician at Our

Lady of Lourdes Hospital while attending college.  From there, she was a

Teachers’ Assistant at Bancroft School for handicapped children.  She

retired from the Department of Defense as a QualIty Control Inspector

after 22 years of dedicated service.  Job well done !! Doris was an excellent bowler

in her younger years. There were times when she bowled in

three leagues at a time earning numerous awards and commendations.

During her retirement, she again  perused her passion for children by

going to work for St Joseph’s Elementary School and St Joseph’s Child

                        Development Center.

Prior to her illness, Doris was faithful member of St Joseph’s Pro-

Cathedral for many years.  She was very active in the Order of Eastern

Star, The Daughters of Zamora Court No. 135, and the Integrity Chapter

No. 31.    She was also involved with the Primrose Assembly Order of the

Golden Circle and was a long term member of the American Legion

Auxilliary at the VFW Post in Woodbury, NJ.

Doris loved jazz music, her album collection was extensive.  She loved to

travel, visit casinos and on occasion, savor a double shot of Remy Martin

with a Heineken chaser with family and friends.  Nothing compared to her

award winning  five cheese macaroni and cheese casserole !! She was an

avid  Eagles fan and always had a sweet tooth.  Her go to candy is Hersheys

kisses.  My, how her eyes lit up when Teet and Rone would visit her bearing

sweet treats such as chocolate cake and or chocolate ice cream.

She peacefully gained her wings on January 23, 2025. She was preceeded

in death by her mother Mabel, fathers Robert and Richard, brothers

Robert Jr and Wilbert and nephews Joseph and Anthony.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter and son in love Veronica

and Ralph, grandchildren in love Duane and Tori (Michael), six great grand

children, her devoted baby sister Betty Mitchell who she affectionately called                         Bunny,

her Uncle Ralph Shannon (Audrey), her host of nieces and nephews,

Gregory Torrence, Anthony Burley, Jacinta Weal (Sylvester), Jerome

Mitchell, Dana Burley, Lavonna Stanley, Josef Mitchell, Letrice Mitchell,

Tonee Burley, London Campbell, Jah’mere Stanley, Journey Stanley,

and Kalvyn Burley-Carey.   She will be forever remembered by her special

family Marcus and Dalny, William and Linda and Denise.

                                                              Lovingly Submitted,  The family
