Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary for Thelma Marie Green Thelma Marie Green was born on January 25, 1947, at the University of Maryland Hospital to Titus Green Sr. and Mary Lease Lance. She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, before relocating to Camden, New Jersey, where she resided until her passing. A bright and accomplished student, Thelma graduated from vocational high school in 1965, earning scholastic honors. She went on to attend Morgan State University, where she obtained a degree in Economics. In her early years, Thelma moved to New Jersey, where she met Felton Walker. They shared a mutual love for great conversations, puzzles, cooking, and dancing. They were married from 1979 to 1988 and, though they later divorced, remained lifelong friends. From this union, they welcomed a uniquely amazing daughter, Alissa Nicole Walker, affectionately known as Nikki. Thelma and Nikki shared a close and loving relationship, full of laughter and cherished moments. Her greatest joy in life was being a devoted mother and grandmother. She deeply loved her daughter Nikki, grandsons Amir and Ryan, and son-in-law, Robert Talley, and made any sacrifice necessary for her family. To know Thelma was to love her. Thelma dedicated 32 years of service as a labor analyst, beginning her career at the Department of Civil Service in Newark, New Jersey, in 1971. She later relocated to Camden, New Jersey, in 1978 and worked for the Department of Personnel in Trenton, New Jersey, until her retirement. She took immense pride in her work and was a diligent, respected worker and supervisor. A woman of deep faith, Thelma was a devoted member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church for over 40 years. She actively participated in the Scholarship Club, Bible Study, Women’s Group, and various church organizations. She was honored as a Silver Saint, a recognition of her dedication to God and her church family. Thelma had a variety of interests and hobbies, including reading, solving puzzles, bowling, ceramics, painting, and crocheting. She had a special love for Motown music and could often be found dancing in the living room, reminiscing about the good times in her life. She also enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, and watching game shows with her grandsons, always quick to guess the correct answers. One of her greatest passions was shopping—she was, without a doubt, a professional shopping specialist. On February 8, 2025, Thelma Green, 78, of Camden, New Jersey, passed away. She was predeceased by her parents, Titus Green Sr., Mary Lease Lance, and bonus mother Vera Allen; her sister, Betty; and two brothers, Irvin and Alvin. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Alissa Nicole Walker; grandsons, Ryan Francis and Amir Talley; and son-in-law, Robert Talley. She is also survived by her siblings, Robert Green, Titus Green Jr., Shirley Greene, and Beverly Green; her loving aunt, Jodell Bush; and many cherished nieces and nephews, including Vicky, Aaron, Ashley, Tameeka, Anthony, Glenn, Andrea, Devon, and Evan. Additionally, Thelma was blessed with a loving bonus family. She is survived by the Allen family, who embraced and loved her as one of their own. Thelma’s kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
