Jimmie L. Atwater , affectionately known to his family as "Benny ," was born on February

Benny received his education in the Upson County School System.
At the young age of 19, Benny moved to Camden, New Jersey , where he moved with
his Johnson family , who welcomed him with open arms and introduced him to the
Northern way of life. It was in Camden, NJ that Benny met and married Theresa Moore.
Together , they raised ten children in the Centerville neighborhood, where their home
was always open to neighborhood children, of fering warmth, meals, kindness, fun, and
generosity .
Benny worked for many years at Campbell Soup before transitioning to a long and
fulfilling career in Philadelphia as a longshoreman with the International
Longshoremen's Association, where he worked until his retirement at the age of 88.
Benny loved his work family! They worked, had fun, and made memories together .
Even in retirement, Benny stayed active, often seen clipping the hedges, sweeping the
sidewalk, completing pool maintenance on his pool that he enjoyed watching the grands
enjoy, or spending quality time with his beloved family .
A man of many interests, Benny loved watching boxing matches, playing the
saxophone, taking care of his yard and trying his luck at the lottery . He was a devoted
father, grandfather , and friend who cherished the moments spent with loved ones.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Theresa, one daughter , Dorothy ,
two sons, James and Raymond, one sister , Emma, two brothers, Jessie and Sammuel,
and two grandsons, Ernest and Quandale.
