Dwight P Cass Sr Obituary

Dwight's Story

Affectionately known to many as "Batman", Dwight Cass, Sr. passed away on August 10, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on November 8, 1946, in Camden, New Jersey, he was the beloved son of the late Albert Cass Sr. and Alverna (Cass) Watson.

Dwight's roots were deeply planted in Camden, though his life journey also led him to Baltimore, Maryland, and Asbury Park, New Jersey, before ultimately returning home to Camden, where he resided until his passing. He graduated from Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ, with an Associate Degree in Food and Nutrition-a foundation

that would guide both his professional career and entrepreneurial ventures.

Dwight began his career in food service at Burger King, where he not only worked diligently but also met the love of his life, Frances A. Cass. On March 16, 1985, they married and built a 40-year partnership filled with unwavering love and devotion.

His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open Chicken George and later Rib Chicks, two establishments that became community favorites. He then advanced his career at the New Jersey State Aquarium, where his leadership and dedication carried him through the ranks to become Vice President of Visitor Services. In addition, Dwight proudly operated Verna's Variety Store-affectionately remembered as "the only corner store in the middle of the block"-which served as a staple in the community.

Dwight's spiritual journey was central to his life. He began his service at Kaighn Avenue Baptist Church (KABC), where he became a founding member of the Youth Spectacular and trained deacons. He later served faithfully at Antioch Baptist Church, where he rose to Chairman of the Deacon Board. Most recently, he was a devoted member of The Perfecting Church. His legacy of faith, mentorship, and leadership within the church will endure for generations.

Beyond his career and ministry, Dwight was a mentor and community leader. He founded a Chess Club,

teaching youth not only the game but also valuable life lessons of patience and strategy. With a joyful singing voice, a contagious sense of humor, and laughter that could fill a room, Dwight had the rare gift of making others feel seen, loved, and valued.

Above all, Dwight cherished his family. He was a proud father to three children: Tameka Reed (LaColis III), Dwight Cass Jr. (Autumn), and Timothy Cass Sr. (Cherie). He was blessed with seven grandchildren- Marcus, Malcolm, Dwight III, Avery, Nylah, Jordyn, and Timothy Jr.-who each brought him immeasurable joy.

He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Edna Harrity; his niece Kelly Cass; and his nephews Albert Cass III, Tony Cass, and Calvin Cass Sr. He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and friends who will carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Albert Cass Jr., and his sister, Patricia Cass.

Known as a husband, father, grandfather, mentor, community leader, and faithful servant, Dwight's legacy is one of love, faith, and service. Though a man of great stature, it was his heart, his faith in God, and his commitment to uplifting others that truly defined his life.

As we celebrate Dwight's life and rejoice in his homegoing, we rest in the words of Psalm 27:1:

"The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom

shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?"
