Jeffrey Poller Obituary

First Smile : September 01, 1953. Last Touchdown : Oct 27, 2025

On September 01, 1953, God blessed the late Bobbie L. Poller Sr & Mary Lee Hobbs with their second baby boy, to

whom they graced the favorable name Jeffery Alan Poller. Dedicated to the US Armed Force, his father led their

family into a lot of traveling. In 1961 his mother moved to Philadelphia, PA & later relocated to Camden NJ, to where

Jeffery decided to reside his family & the remainder of his life. Jeffery was a scholar, with a bright future ahead of

him. Outstanding in subjects like mathematics, & extraordinary gifts like photographic memory. He could take apart

t.v.s & radios & restore them, his siblings can recall a time he dismantled one toy robot into thousands of pieces &

single handedly rebuilt it back. His early education was spent in Philadelphia, & some of secondary schooling was

earned at the infamous “Castle On The Hill” also known as Camden HS. In which he & his fellow brotherhood initiated

a fraternity. Jeff was a striver for higher achievement, very intelligent, quiet at times, & had strong leadership. Doing

what he knew was right, taking a stance to fight for the injustice that was occurring at his high school. The fraternity

had demanded for more advanced math & science courses to be offered, & available like they had been previously

before over the years. Orchestrating a boycott, they barricaded themselves inside causing a school shutdown. After

they succeeded in victory, Jeffery’s time was cut short there, proving the adage that “no good deed goes unpunished.

But thanks to his parents’ financial support, Jeff was able to attend & graduate from a high-tech preparatory school in

Philadelphia, PA. Finishing with honors he was offered full scholarships to schools like Harvard & Rutgers University.

After accepting an offer to Rutgers to study mathematics & minor in cyber crypto technology; Jeff shortly after enlisted

in the United States Air Force, where he was assigned a key role in cybersecurity. He was a SGT in Electronic

Communication & Cryptographic Equipment Systems & he was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Under honorable

conditions he was discharged from the Air Force. By April of 1977, Jeffery had fathered his first child, Chappell Ebon

Poller. He would then go on to find his forever love Yvonne Martha Smith. From this union Xavier Elizabeth Poller,

was born November of 1991, he also gained two bonus elder children. They married on June 13, 2009, 17yrs into

their 47yr long loving relationship .The two would often pack food & blankets & head to the live jazz shows at the

Wiggins Park on the downtown Camden Waterfront. They loved nights at home playing hits like “You Are Number

One” by The Whispers & “What's Going On” by Marvin Gaye. Jeffery held various jobs & occupations in his life,

including work in construction, shipyards, & warehouses, until he sustained a brain trauma injury on the job in waste

management in 2007.

Throughout the years, he courageously fought through health conditions such as seizures since the injury, prostate

cancer, a fractured hip & his most recent battle with throat cancer. He went through many trials, tribulations & health

issues. Despite these, he always miraculously bounced back, controlled by meds but mostly prayer. Full of pride &

integrity, he seldom complained about anything, always flagged a hand away that he was fine. His courage, strength,

& sheer will to overcome obstacles serve as an inspiration to all. Jeff enjoyed the simplicity in life holiday parties &

birthday parties his family gave him. He loved watching sports, especially his favorite team the Philadelphia Eagles, &

dancing; he hardly heard a song he didn't like. He would speak to whoever crossed his path, sitting around the

neighborhood, becoming familiar with everyone. By late Aug Jeffery fell ill & was admitted to Cooper Hospital where

he underwent major surgery. By mid Oct he was discharged into Riverfront Rehabilitation. His wife & daughter Xavier

would faithfully visit & check on his wellness. During their last encounter his wife couldn't stop complimenting how

well he was doing & looked. He smiled & thanked her all while focusing on lacing his belt into his pants & making sure

the crease was front & centered. He asked for the crucifix from his get-well bear that held it during his recovery. After

placing it on, his spirits visibly lifted with the Lord's protection. Peacefully, on Oct 27,2025, he passed away. God’s

grace always prevailed over his life, & he can now rest with the Lord.Jeff will be remembered for his great wisdom,

calm temperament & welcoming warm smile. He was a devoted husband & father, never was shy to shout “ My wife!

& Only my wife! His medical team heard it the most, how he only listens to his wife, & she’s the only one who tells him

what to do. A loving brother & uncle & caring gpop & friend. Jeffery lived happy, loved easily & will forever be in our

hearts. Preceded in death by his son, & mother, niece Alexis Poller, two nephews Deshawn Poller, & Etlan Smith. He

leaves behind to treasure their memories. Wife Yvonne Smith Poller, daughters Xavier Poller, Shavonne Burgess,

Leah Smith. Sister Debbie Poller (Mike), brothers Bobbie Poller, Rawn Poller. Sister & brother in-love Lovely &

Waheed Iswa, Sonny & Sharon Smith. A host of nieces & nephews, whom he loved as if his own. 8 grandchildren

Karohn, Christian Poller, Karma, Kameron Pace, Dijhin Booth, Meira & Riyah & Baby Moody. Relatives & friends.

Thank you for coming to celebrate his home going.
