Tonya Johnson, 52, of Camden, New Jersey, passed away on November 25th, 2024.

Born on May 31st, 1973 at Cherry Hill Hospital, Tonya grew up in Camden and attended Woodrow Wilson High School.

Tonya was the beloved daughter of Veronica L. Johnson and the late Michael Lewis, and she was lovingly raised by her stepfather Dwight Johnson. She was a devoted mother to Lei’Asia Taylor and Kimtoria Wallace, and a proud grandmother to E’Miyah, Taraji, Dirinity, Dior, Malik, Ra’Jaih, and Saint, who were the brightest parts of her life.

Tonya is survived by her sister Shamika Johnson, her brother Stuart Johnson, her grandmother Sylvia Johnson, her “Special Aunt” Deborah Johnson, and her godmother Carolyn Wooden. She is also survived by her cousins Gina Johnson and Tynesha Medley, who were more like sisters to her, sharing a lifelong bond from growing up together. In addition, she leaves behind her nephew Da’Quan Johnson, who was not only her nephew but also like a son to her.

Tonya is further survived by many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who loved her deeply. She was preceded in death by her brother Omar Thompson, her father Michael Lewis, and her grandfather David Searcy.

Tonya faced many challenges in life with a quiet strength that not everyone saw. Through everything, she remained a sweet, kind-hearted woman with a soft voice and a deep love for her family. Her grandchildren brought her comfort and joy, and music was always a source of peace for her.

Tonya will be remembered for her warmth, her gentle spirit, and the love she carried for her family. Her journey was not always easy, but her heart was always open. She leaves behind memories that her loved ones will cherish forever.
