Hashmiru Sesay Obituary
In Loving Memory of Hashmiru I. Sesay, Jr.
February 27, 1977 – April 5, 2026
Hashmiru I. Sesay, Jr., born in Camden, New Jersey, and a longtime resident of Pennsauken, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, on Easter Sunday, at the age of 49.
Hashmiru was a man of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering independence. He was private by nature, yet incredibly lovable to those who truly knew him. Family meant everything to him. Though he kept a small circle and preferred solitude, his presence was steady, thoughtful, and genuine.
He was highly intelligent and carried himself with humility, never one to seek attention or ask for anything. And if he ever did, he made sure to return it twofold. He lived a life free of drama, rooted in peace, self-reliance, and quiet integrity.
Hashmiru found joy in simple things. He loved his video games and had a unique appreciation for writing things down the old-fashioned way, with pen and pad, a reflection of his thoughtful and intentional spirit.
He shared a special bond with his family. He is the beloved son of the late Della A. Sesay and Hashmir I. Sesay, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving sister, Mo’Neke Ragsdale, and his younger brother, Hamed A. Sesay.
He was a proud and loving uncle to his nephews, Edgar, Elijah, Eric Lee, and Mervin L. Ragsdale III, and a cherished great-uncle to Ja’Niyah Lee, Lennox Gloster, Elijah Lee Jr., Kairo Randell, Alayah Ragsdale, and Aubrey Ragsdale.
Hashmiru shared a close and meaningful bond with his siblings. He stood beside his sister during some of the most active and impactful moments of her advocacy and protest work, offering his quiet support and presence, often alongside his brother Hamed, with whom he shared a deep and unique connection.
In his final days, he allowed himself to be surrounded by family, leaving behind moments that will forever be held close and cherished.
Hashmiru’s life was not loud, but it was meaningful. He will be remembered for his quiet love, his strength, his loyalty, and the way he showed up for the people who mattered most.
A private memorial service will be held to honor his life.

As he prepared to transition, Hashmiru spoke words that will forever live in our hearts. He said he was ready. He released all hurt, forgave freely, and reminded us of what mattered most, love.
May we carry his final message forward, living with the same quiet strength, grace, and compassion he showed.
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”
