Obituary of Lewis Ed Douglas

Ed Douglas was born in Camden Cooper Hospital on April 2, 1941 to the late Edward Lewis Douglas Sr. “also known as Champ” and Evelyn Redmond. He was the first of three children. He was raised in Moorestown NJ and graduated from Moorestown High School class of 1959. While attending Moorestown High School he played three years for the varsity basketball team as a guard and won three state championships. He was considered to be one of the best basketball players in Northern and Southern Jersey. In his last year he won the “scoring title” by scoring 84 points in one game. During his junior and senior year the team was undefeated and he made first team all american and first team defense. He would often share stories of his basketball career with his son. After winning the state championships, he attended University of Kansas where played guard along side “Joe Joe White” and played professionally with the Baltimore Bullets and Joe Joe White played for the Boston Celtics. In the early 60’s he suffered a knee injury which resulted in his retirement. Upon retirement,  he obtained employment with IT&T continental Baking Company which is known as Wonder Bread. He worked as a driver salesman for 43 years until his retirement. In 1958, he met Helen Jones who would soon become his wife. In 1963, the two were married and from this union they had one son Edward Douglas. 

 

Aside from basketball, he loved carpentry, fishing, and listening to oldies like the Spinners and O’Jays. He enjoyed barbequeing and spending time with his family while watching the basketball game of course. He would spend time restoring his 51” Chevy Pick up truck and 64” Buick Electric 225. He also worked on his boats and loved dogs. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Douglas and Evelyn Redmond. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Helen Douglas, his son Edward Douglas, his grandson Edward Douglas Jr. his granddaughter Taylor Connors, his brothers Randolph Douglas aka Dike and Howard Redmond. He also leaves to cherish his great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
