David Augustus Still was affectionately known as Neck, King David and Hot Dog Dave. Born on January 2, 1961 to the late Powell and Dolores Still of Camden, NJ. He departed this life on January 8, 2023.
David is the youngest of 7 children. When his parents brought him home from Cooper Hospital, they gathered his siblings together and asked what he should be named. After much deliberation the family came up with the name David. When he became an adult, he renamed himself “King David”.
David graduated from the Camden City Public Schools. In high school he excelled in football, basketball, and ran track. David was a notable member of Camden High Basketball State Championship Team in 1979. After graduation in 1979 he attended Snow College in Utah on a football scholarship. Later he attended Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ.
David left his mark on several jobs. He began his career as a BPUM Day Care Teacher. He went on to work as a Blackjack dealer at Trump Plaza and Tropicana Casino. At the peak of his career, he worked as a Camden City Firemen. He also was employed at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital (Virtua) and Camden City Public Schools.
David became an entrepreneur when he purchased a commercial truck. He named his red truck “Dave’s Dogs”. His brother-in-law affectionally gave him the name, “Hot Dog Dave” during his entrepreneur journey which he now known by friends and acquaintances.
One of David’s favorite family traditions, was celebrating Birthdays and family gathering. David was extremely sociable and was the life of the party. He had friends all over South Jersey. When David came to a social event, he was always smiling and ready to dance. Tall in stature, you could see him coming with his hat tipped to the side. He made a cameo appearance to parties and cookouts. He enjoyed being on the grill at barbecues and cookouts. He considered himself the “Grill Master”. He was a dapper dresser and known as a GQ Dancing Machine. On Thanksgivings you would find him at Camden High – Woodrow Wilson Turkey game tailgating with his homemade hot turkey soup.
Some of David’s prized possessions were his Classic Cadillac and his Old School Flip Phone. that is still operable!!
David’s Pride and Joy was the birth of his son, Demitrius in 1988 whom he loved and adored. He would often brag about his son’s accomplishments.
David was kindhearted, always encouraging, positive and never failed to leave friends and family with an infectious smile. David would say if you needed a place to stay… you can stay here. You could call him at 4am in the morning and say you needed a ride; he would come get you. If you were David’s friend, you had a friend for life!!!
David leaves to cherish his memory one son Demitrius Still; siblings: Charles (Rose), Joseph (E. Christine), Clifford (Nina), Elizabeth (Ralph), Dorrie and Clinton; one Aunt: Dora Mae Pratt; cousins/brothers: Chaka, Balawa and Kevin Pratt; one goddaughter: Stephanie Bowman; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, many, many devoted friends.
