Obituary of Kim Marie Harmon

Please share a memory of Kim to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kim Marie Phillips Harmon was born on April 2, 1968 to Roberta M. Phillips and the late James M. Phillips in Camden, NJ. She was the eldest child and daughter, sharing a very special and close bond with her younger sister's Natonya C. Phillips and Teresa L. Phillips. Kim was born with a unique birth mark, a beautiful streak of gray hair in the forefront of her head. Growing up she was affectionately referred to as "the pretty girl with the gray streak." In her formative years, she enjoyed attending modeling school with her sister Natonya. Being only 14 months apart, they shared everything including the love and care of the baby girl Teresa when she came along 6 years later. Kim was a very protective big sister and would let you know that if you "messed" with her sisters. She loved them wholeheartedly and unconditionally. Together, Kim and her sisters share a beautiful loving relationship with their Mother Roberta. Many can attest to the unwavering love and supportamongst the four of them. Kim attended Camden City Public Schools. In her early working years, she held many different jobs but was not quite sure what would be her niche. She spent many years bartending and was very popular. A caretaker at heart, Kim eventually decided to pursue a career in the medical field. She then graduated from Omega Institute where she trained as a multi-skilled technician/phlebotomist. This led her to her second home, the Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden. Always a hard worker, Kim would often work doubles and as her family would jokingly say, "triples." She gave Lourdes 15 years of dedicated service, working there until she was unable to do so because of her illness. She loved her Lourdes family. Kim married her beloved husband Donald T. Harmon on April 4, 2009, after many years of friendship. A devoted wife, Kim loved her husband. A devoted husband, Donald has loved and cared for Kim throughout her fifteen-year battle with cancer. Donald attributes all that he has become to the love, care and devotion of his wife. Together they enjoyed all things family, but also enjoyed their quiet moments. Donald was the cook in the house and Kim loved Donald's cooking, especially his signature spaghetti and meatball, and chili. Kim was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. She loved "Dem Boyz!" Donald is an Eagles fan. Needless to say, their love for the football season was loads of fun and loud! One of Kim's most enjoyable times was when her Lourdes family treated she and Donald to tickets to the Eagles vs. Cowboys game, traveling via limousine to "The Link" in the fall of 2013. Kim was truly a beautiful woman on the outside and more importantly on the inside. She will forever be remembered by many, as she loved people and providing for others. Although Kim and Donald had no children, Kim was a mother figure, nurturer and supporter too countless people throughout her life. In the final stretch of her illness, she was more concerned about the impact her passing would have on her beloved nieces Tierra, Tyra, Trinity, nephew Nolan, and great niece Neoni. She would often say she lived for them and took great pride in their achievements. The phrase, "I love you Aunt Kim," flowed from their mouths constantly. She was a devoted Auntie to nieces, nephews, younger cousins and the neighbor children. Kim loved children and children loved her. Kim encouraged the children, listened to them and encouraged them to use their gifts. She was the unofficial block caption, organizing the block clean-up, motivating everyone on the block to create an environment that was safe and clean for the children. To know Kim is to love Kim. If you needed a place to stay and she had a roof, you had a place to stay. If you needed to eat and she had food, you had food. Countless of times, she opened her home to others. It wascommon for her to say "Come on Tonya, let's run these plates to the homeless on Kaighn Ave." Kim began her battle with cancer in 2001 at the age of 33. Her courage, strength and sheer will have been an encouragement to all, sick and healthy. Kim was a fighter and lived her live to very end. She continued to care for others, wear her signature long manicured nails, and told us what we needed to hear whether we liked it or not. She made it her business to introduce others to Christ. Kim was a woman of faith. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized in 1996. Although she had some troubles in her life, her faith and trust in God never wavered. Her life's work reflects that she was indeed a true servant of God, and he got Glory out of her life. She can now rest with the Lord. To cherish her memory, Kim leaves her husband, Donald T. Harmon, Mother, Roberta M. Phillips, sistersNatonya C. Phillips and Teresa L. Phillips all of Camden, NJ. Nieces Tierra Hamilton, Tyra Hamilton, Trinity Hamilton, Nephew Nolan C. Phillips, and great-niece Neoni Martinez. Mother-in-law, Vyrice Perry, sisters-in-laws,Donora Brown, Syreeta Harmon, Shadriin Brunson, and Romaine Wright.
