Obituary of Marlene Luff

Marlene Carrie Brown Luff, affectionately known to all as “Mar,” was a light in every life she touched. Born on December 10, 1951, in the warmth of her family home on Ashland Avenue in Lawnside, New Jersey, Marlene was the cherished daughter of Harold Thomas Brown, Sr. and Geneva Hill Brown. On October 2, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family and friends, Marlene peacefully transitioned into the embrace of the Lord she adored. From a young age, Marlene’s faith was her guiding star. She accepted Christ at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she found her greatest joy in praising her Savior. Even when health challenges came her way, Marlene’s steadfast faith carried her, and she faced every obstacle with grace, courage, and a heart full of trust in God. Marlene was educated in the Lawnside Public School System. Marlene had a passion for helping others, which led her to a fulfilling career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Cooper Hospital and Meridian Nursing Home. Her kindness, care, and compassion made her a source of comfort for all her patients, embodying the very essence of service. Outside of work, Marlene was known for her love of “Oldies” music, where she transformed into DJ Dr. Freeze, bringing joy through music, much like she did in all aspects of her life. Marlene's home was filled with warmth, music, laughter, and love—especially when it came to her family. She found boundless joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, always making them feel adored, cherished, and special. Known for her famous 7-Up cake, she could brighten anyone’s day with her cooking, but it was her love and open heart that nourished everyone around her. She never turned anyone away, always offering a kind word, a listening ear, and a smile that could light up a room. Her ability to love without judgment, to listen with understanding, and to offer a calm, soothing presence endeared her to everyone she met. Marlene’s radiant smile, infectious joy, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Though Marlene is reunited in Heaven with her beloved parents, sisters Ethel Stephens and Shirley Cook, and brothers Harold Brown Jr. (Puddy) and Malcolm Brown (Mack), her legacy of love and compassion continues through her family: daughters Jennifer Person, Juanita Gibson (Richard), and Jeannine Person; son Teron Darrison; her treasured seven grandchildren, Lamar, LaSha, Brielle, Blair, Morgan, Shabazz, and Bruce; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters Geneva Darrison, Christine Williams, and Darlene Still; brother Richard Brown (Renee); brother-in-law Harold Stephens (Carol); sister-in-law Charlene Martin; aunts Vivian Tanner and Cynthia Hill; her special companion Marvin Warren (Booie), and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Marlene’s legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering faith. Her beautiful soul will forever be remembered in the hearts of all who knew her, and her memory will continue to shine, like her smile, a light that will never dim.
