Obituary of Roosevelt Morton

Roosevelt Morton was born November 4, 1941 in Randolph, Virginia to the late Henry Green and Florence Morton. He was the fifth child of eight children. 

He was educated in the Charlotte County School System in Randolph, Virginia. He worked on a tobacco farm for a couple of years until he decided 

to relocate to New Jersey for employment. He joined Local Union 

222 and did construction for a short period of time. 

 

Roosevelt went to school to learn how to operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers and backhoes. Because of his education and his newly acquired skills, Roosevelt was able to land another position with another union, Local 825. He was awarded a gold medal from the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 825. The medal was awarded in recognition of 

his faithful service and provided him with a lifetime membership in good standing with the union. After 27 years of service, he retired on disability.

In his spare time, Roosevelt enjoyed watching and listening to football games, especially his favorite team, the 

Eagles. He also enjoyed basketball. Roosevelt did gardening and lawn work, a hobby that he and his wife Eloise both share. 

 

Roosevelt was a mechanic in his own right. He could fix and repair cars, if necessary. He also was a handy man around the Roosevelt was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist 

Church in Camden, New Jersey. He visited Mount Olivet SDA Church and took Bible Studies from Bible Worker, Shanta Collins. In 2011, Roosevelt joined Mt. Olivet SDA Church under the 

leadership of Pastor Frank E. Legette III. He believed in faithfully paying his tithes and offering. He loved fellowshipping 

with other believers.As Roosevelt got older, the vision in one of his eyes went 

bad for a while. As time went by, he lost sight in both eyes due to a history of diabetes. Despite the loss of his vision, Roosevelt loved socializing with friends and going out to dinner. He enjoyed 

a wide variety of foods.

 

Roosevelt leaves to mourn his wife Eloise Parrish Morton, children: Larry Parrish, Mabel C. Parrish and Regina Parrish Busby (Gregory), grandchildren: Gregory Busby, Christopher Busby, Tameka Busby, Larry Davis, Mecedes Shippy, and Austin Parrish, Sisters: Clearena Morton and Pauline Lambert, pre-deceased Kathleen and Karen. Brother: Henry Morton, pre-

deceased Kermit and Herman and a host of nieces, nephews, 

family and friends.
