Obituary of Gladys Alford

Please share a memory of Gladys to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gladys Alford (nee Turner), the daughter of the late David Turner and Iola Dowd Turner was born November 17, 1947, the youngest of 5 children. Gladys received her formal education in the Philadelphia school system and attended Rutgers University for 3 years. She was employed by Lockheed Martin as an Administrative Assistant and then was promoted as an Assistant Buyer before retiring after 26 years of service. She later began to work at Sell All Properties, LLC Realty to help support her husband, and they continued to work together for many years. Gladys was joined in holy matrimony to her high school sweetheart, Eugene L. Alford on June 8, 1968 and their union was blessed with three beautiful children. Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known for her grace, elegance, and compassion. Her quiet and sincere presence inspired strength and unity in the family. That foundation will continue to keep the family strong. Gladys was truly the epitome of a matriarch. Gladys accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She attended Harris Temple AME Zion church and later became a member of Antioch Baptist Church on July 14, 1991 under the leadership of Rev. John O. Parker. She remained faithful to the church for over 29 years and served in many ministries such as: Health and Awareness, Scholarship, Hospitality, Greeters, Coordinator for the Fugitive Safe Surrender Program, and the Noon Day Bible Study. She was a vessel for service and took great pride in her dedication to the Lord. Gladys Alford will always be remembered for being a true "Fashionista." She was an avid shopper long before the phrase was coined, and her gift of style was present in her daily outfits as much as it was sprinkled throughout her home. Her truthful nature, life-lived personality, world traveling adventures, and her soulful spirit will reverberate through her family and friends forever. Gladys was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, William Turner and Tommie Turner. On Monday, November 23, 2020, she answered the call of the Master… “Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Mathew 25:23 She leaves cherished memories to her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Eugene L. Alford. Her children, Eugene D. Alford (Chanel), Kimya Y. Alford and Quanda Gaines (Kevin). Sisters in Law, Beverly Coleman, Yvonne Jones, and Thelma Turner. 8 grandchildren- Rajeer, Cherise, Kiyonna, Takiera, Deonte, Timothy, Tamara, Trey and 5 great grandchildren. Her special friends Cynthia Bagwell and Clarence Bagwell. Also my business partner Norma Sellers and her husband Don. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and her loving church family.
