On Saturday, January 9, 2021, William Bennett—brother, uncle, decorated soldier, and friend—passed peacefully following a fall and subsequent stroke. "Billy" to those who knew and loved him, was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A beloved son to Hazel, and a cherished protector of his five younger sisters, Billy chose to forgo college and a full scholarship to St. Joseph University to enlist in the United States Army, to provide financial help to his family. Billy graduated from Roman Catholic High School; he later attended Temple University after his service in the Army. William Bennett received the Purple Heart, a distinguished service medal. Proud of his military service, Billy retired from his work as a custodian at the main branch of the United States Postal Service in Philadelphia. William Bennett is mourned by his grief-stricken sisters, his saddened nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
