Michael E. Smith was born on February 13, 1974 in Camden, NJ to Sharon A. Richardson-Smith and Edwin A. Smith Jr. He was the last of the five siblings born to his mother and the sixth born to his Father.He attended The King’s Christian School, Camden High school, Genesis School of Business and Johnson C. Smith University in NC briefly. Michael played in the football and baseball teams in Camden High School. From his early childhood, he fell in love with the Dallas Cowboys football team and remained a fan over the years. He joined Aluminum Shapes Company in 1994, where he had several roles inclusive of being a Union Representative of the Teamsters Local 837. He followed his passion of football by working part-time as an Assistant Football coach in Saint James High School in 1998 and joined Ed Myer South Jersey Association as a Football Official in 2005. His last job was at First Student Bus Company where he joined in 2019 till his last days. He was recognized and awarded (Bible memory contest and men’s award for worship service) for his commitment in the Lord’s vineyard and for his commitment to the baseball and football teams in Camden High School.He also offered himself as a volunteer amongst several others, at Parkside Methodist Church as an audio/visual department member and Quality Insight Renal Network where he enjoyed giving speeches and uplifting patients with renal disease by having one on one conversations with them. Based on his experiences, he took up writing poems of encouragement and passing them out on printed cards to people facing challenging situations. He also sang briefly in the church choir where his Mum was the director. He and his wife Joy started an outreach (In the Name of Jesus Outreach) where they made sandwiches, passed them out with drinks and fruits to the needy around the Camden Bus Terminal and prayed with them, until he had an incident and the pandemic followed thereafter. Michael enjoyed grilling outdoors, cooking, baking, composing poems and bowling. He loved to have himself some really good and hearty meals. His Mother’s last wish to him was for him to get married; At the right time in his life and by the leading of the Holy Spirit, he met his wife Joy. Michael will be remembered as a true definition of a lover of God, a great and loving husband, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and a light that shone bright everywhere he went. He was predeceased by his parents Sharon A. Richardson-Smith, Edwin A. Smith Jr, his brother, Edwin A. Smith and his sisters Anita G. Smith and Jeannine M. Smith. Leaving to honor his life and lasting memories are: His wife Joy Smith; His Siblings: Ellery Smith (Bridget), Angela Smalls-Walker and LaTonya Martins (Mobolaji); His Nieces and Nephews: Eddie, Tony, Natasha, Latoya, Kristina, Selena, Elliott, Elijah and Emmanuel. A host of great nieces & nephews, cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and friends.
