Obituary of William Bobby Barnes

William Bobby Barnes was born June 10, 1941 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to George Douglas and Lula Mae Barnes who proceeded him in death. Bobby attended the Rocky Mount Public school system where he received his high school diploma. Bobby met and wed Bernice Corbett, out of this union came two children, Valerie "Denise" Barnes and William "Maurice" Barnes. After migrating from North Carolina to Pennsylvania, Bobby worked for a construction company for many years. He later moved to New Jersey and met his lifelong partner, Patricia "Jackie" Johnson and helped raise Lawrence "Manny" Johnson and Syreeta "Wea" Johnson. Bobby was a hardworking man who worked at Dayton Manor Nursing Home as a cook for 15 years. He retired from Dayton Manor, for a short period of time. Bobby's old school work ethic caused him to come out of retirement and gain employment at the Brookdale Retirement Home until he became ill. Bobby loved the Lord and attended New Beginnings Worship Center in Pennsauken, NJ. Bobby was a man of few words but when he spoke, it always was something of profound substance. Bobby was a loving father, who was easy to talk to and always well dressed. Bobby loved sports, especially football and baseball. He played baseball with a neighborhood team for many years. He also enjoyed watching the NASCAR races. Bobby had a great love for cooking and enjoyed watching people eat his food. Bobby was preceded in death by his brother George Douglas Barnes Jr. and leaves to cherish his memory his lifelong partner Patricia "Jackie" Johnson; his mother Lula Mae Barnes; children, Valerie "Denise" Barnes, William "Maurice" (Carol) Barnes, Lawrence "Manny" Johnson, Syreeta "Wea" Johnson; brothers Vanjamin "Dean" Barnes, Willis Milton (Angela) Barnes and Alton (Carolyn) Barnes; sisters Christine (Lenwood) Mickens, Eulah (Kenneth) Harrison, Phyllis (Melvin) Branch; six grandchildren, one great grandchild and one on the way. Bobby also leaves to cherish his memory a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
